[PLUG] DVD playing

My Sarge installation originally had a 2.4.27 kernel,
but I installed the 2.6.9 kernel-image package. I had
no trouble playing multimedia DVD's using the original
kernel (never), but with the new one I can play only
some. (Otherwise the DVD just doesn't launch.) I can't
think of any obvious explanation for this: has anyone
else had a similar experience?
