Well, seeing that <URL: http://www.websiteos.com/ > is 403 and
<URL: http://help.websiteos.com/ > reads "This domain has no homepage.
Please link to this site via your hosting provider.", I would have to
guess "Very Proprietary".

There are other pages available via the help.websiteos.com subdomain which
indicate that this certainly is a support site for this software. Whether
or not it is operated by the manufacturer is another story. While they're
used a whole lot, they don't seem to be doing much in the way of overt
marketting. [Which means what? They're making all of their sales through
insider contacts and cold calls?]

Is it possible that this approach is intended to thwart free software
clones of their (probably trivial) functionality?

The administrative and technical contacts for the domain are both just
some low-rent registrar that doesn't actually give you control of your
domains.
