Just underclock the P4 so that its performance rating matches that of a
laptop-capable G4. Heat worries will disappear! :-)
More to the point, IBM seemingly didn't want to throw its weight behind
the development of a serious mobile CPU for general-purpose computing.
My reading is that Apple is all about mobility: the G5 desktops and
Xserve units are sexy, but it's the laptops that are selling OS X these
days. If PowerPC wasn't going to make a serious play in the
mobile-performance category, then Apple did the right thing.
