Check out http://linuxprinting.org/. There are a lot of color and laserjet
printers that work well under Linux, and this site has a database showing
which ones are best-supported, and has a lot of good information.
Even though it is often cursed to the heavens, CUPS is a very nice printing
system. Much better than the old line-printer protocols. The CUPS web
interface rather sux, but you can also use KDEPrint or Gnome-Print, which
many folks prefer. Make sure you download both the foomatic and gimp-print
driver packages, and ESP Ghostscript. Having those will prevent 99% of Linux
printing problems. The Gimp-print drivers are usually the best.
