"which" should have been the obvious solution here.  Sometimes the java
./bin/ directory doesn't get into the path as it should.  If "which
java" doesn't give you just what's needed, then you should find and add
that bin/ to your path.  It will probably avoid headaches later, when,
for example, you decide to try limewire.
