Yes, it is. That's one of the reasons why I'm moving to Canada (our new
house closes July 12).
Seems that 10 years ago, Canada made the commitment to wire EVERY
community, no matter how remote - the program is called CANCAP, Canadian
Community Access Project. At that time, they KNEW that they could not
predict what technology would look like in 10 or 20 years. So they
decided to wire everybody, rolling out the newest technologies as they
came available.
By the end of 2006, EVERY community, including those little Inuiit
villages north of the Arctic Circle, including those two or three houses
clustered on some lake that can only be accessed by float plane,
including every small town and every large city, will have broadband
access. In the cities, its through the cable companies. In the villages,
it is through 802.11b/g. And this Fall, they will start rolling out WiMax.
It's a matter of public policy. Something that is totally lacking in
Second World Countries, like that United States. But then, that's
contrary to the Libertarian/Christian Facist religion.
I know this should have been on PLUG-Talk, but I refuse to let little
asides like this slip by. It is because we let neocon phrases and
ideologies slip into our society's consciousness unchallenged, laughing
at them as if they were harmless, that our whole society has gone to hell.
If have made the moral decision to challenge all Libertarian and Neocon
statements at every opportunity, just as I do racist and homophobic
speech. If you don't want me coming back at you strong on PLUG, only
spew the Neocon/Libertarian ideology on PLUG-Talk.
Peace, Justice, and Socialism for All,
-Ron
