[PLUG] disk under software mirror died

I have a RH9 system that will no longer boot.
I had identical Maxtor 40G disks, partitioned identically. hda died. The
system will no longer boot. I thought that the mirror recovery floppy I
made would help me make hdb bootable. It does not appear to help with
that, but will help me boot to /dev/md0 exclusively.

Booting into knoppix shows me that hda is unaccessable and hdb is as
expected.

What do I need to do to bring this system back up?
