It won't work as an AP, but I can
get it to work for ad-hoc
connections.

Without even orienting the antenna
in the right direction, I know I
can reach at least one place worth
getting to. I'm sure I can do a
long range wireless network even
if I have to do multiple hops.
I don't know how to activate WEP.
There's something called WPA
also. I'm using the Windows XP
driver from RealTek's webiste
with ndiswrapper-1.0,
Slackware-10.1, and a 2.6.10 kernel.

One gotcha is that you must compile
usb support as a module and modules
for usb hub support seem to be needed
as well. My wifi adapter isn't USB
based, but ndiswrapper probably
requires USB hooks in the kernel
for other wireless adapters that
are.

NFS root with Slackware-10.1 is a
cinch. All I had to do was add a
single if in rc.S to
bypass the file system check and
voila. I wish I knew how to turn
hotplug support off. I don't
have anything in my router box
that needs that. The way the
the Slackware 10.1 modutils
work with both 2.4 and 2.6
kernels is sweet.

I can run these cards in ad-hoc
mode. I don't know if ndiswrapper
with the most recent XP driver
can operate the card as an access
point, but I can at least establish
point to point links now.
