I don't support email addresses like:

12.3.22.1.camel at robinson-west.com

Is there any way I can have postfix
suppress logging of intended
recipients following forms that I
neither use nor allow?

What are the rules for email addresses?
What characters are legal? How long
can they be?

I think I'm using a sledgehammer to put
a tack into a corkboard blocking
the ip address of certain email sources.
I block the ip address so that my logs
won't flood with garbage. So far, the
lowest rejection rate I can achieve for
a single day is somewhere in the 30-40%
range. I don't know if greylisted email
is considered rejected by Jim Sun's
pflogsumm.pl script.

There aren't always reverse dns records
for legitimate smtp clients and I have
also noticed that a some mail servers
behind MS NAT don't connect to me with
their external Internet address.

If I have an email address that I decide to
discontinue, I want to be able to watch
for attempts to email that specific address.
However, I don't want to be flooded with
random garbage addresses.

Is it common to use dynamic ip and hostname
addressing on Internet connected mail servers?
If it is, checking the helo and the hostname
may be completely ambiguous.

If I can't trust the address of the connecting
smtp server as a reliable filtering criteria,
I'm at a loss on what to do. It seems like the
Internet needs a more secure host addressing
scheme.
