Hi John,

I think any of the distros should work fine for what you want. They pretty
much all offer the option to customize the amount of stuff you install.
Many of the default GUIs now are built on GNOME and KDE which might be
slow on a Pentium or Pentium II, but you can always install a different
window manager and use that instead.

One distro that is pretty cool is Gentoo -- they make it pretty easy to
build a system with binaries that are compiled for your processor.
