[PLUG] Slow scrolling in xterms

I use a fedora core 4 box at work, and I mainly use X to have lots of
vim sessions open at once on two monitors.  When I have vim running in
split-window mode, scrolling (holding down j, k or the up or down
arrows) is pretty slow and maxes out the cpu, much more so than just
holding down pageup or pagedown.  Any suggestions on why this should be
so?  Is it a video card problem?  We're using GeForce cards, and they
seem very happy otherwise.
