For what it's worth, on the Netgear FVS318...

I think I saw a reference in one of the previous threads on this subject
that this was about version 2 hardware of the FVS318.

At one time, I tried what I guess was version 1. (There was no hardware
version number on the box). For me, it never worked. ALL tries to make
it work had exactly the same symptoms. As soon as significant traffic
flowed over a connection, that connection hung. An example of a
"significant" amount of traffic is the output of a "ps -ef" command over a
ssh connection. Lesser, slower traffic was fine; like typing "date".

Exactly this behavior persisted through 3-4 firmware releases. Looking at
different net forums, there was some talk about getting around hung or
dropped connections by changing maximum frame sizes. That didn't help
me. And by this time it was too late to return it.

I ended up with the Linksys/Cisco RV082 8 port vpn router. The advertised
capabilities were roughly equivalent to the FVS318; at 2-3x the price.
However, for me, the RV082 worked fine.

I've still got the old FVS318; I'll probably try to recycle it through
freegeek
at some time in the future.
