Did some more looking and tried making changes to /etc/auto.misc to look
> at the correct device but still no joy.


auto.misc is from autofs, it's a different kind of automounter: autorun and
the like detect that a CD is inserted and mount it. autofs will intercept a
command like "ls /mnt/cdrom" and mount the CD if it's not already mounted.
autofs is configured through auto.misc, and you need to run autofs daemon.
You should not be using both automounters at the same time for the same
device and mount point.

autorun in KDE is next.
