Yes, I figured out the problem for MY machine. It was a marginal
CD-Drive. I replaced it with another drive and was able to continue with
the installation.

Here's part of the last message I sent the list on the subject:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
MARGINAL CD DRIVE WAS THE PROBLEM.

I changed the CD drive for another I had in an otherwise dead machine,
and tried again, this time it boots and runs the install just fine.

Since I had installed SuSE 9.1 on the machine, and upgrading from the CD
set to 9.3 is an option, I'm giving that a try to see how it goes. If it
is clean, I may use that approach to upgrade this system -- but only
after backups, of course.

There's only 5:36:21 to go, so I'll have to wait to declare success.
Hmmm. Now there's 5:42:28, and it says that it's looking at CD2 even
though CD 2 is sitting on my desk!

Be sure to tune in next week for the continuation of our saga.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm afraid I never sent anything regarding how it finally turned out. In
spite of the "time remaining" and other install messages, it finally did
finish and is a working installation. I haven't had time to use it, or
to upgrade this machine since then, but I'm satisfied that the process
will work when I get to it.
