Cool!

OK, just did it. Sure enough, you are right. I did the ndiswrapper -i 
command and the the command ndiswrapper -l now finds the driver 
and says all is well.

But modprobe ndiswrapper still gives me "FATAL: Error inserting 
ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.12-9-amd64-
generic/kernel/drivers/net/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko): operation 
not permitted." And I was root before I gave the command.

I now think there is something about the "generic" header -- before 
it was for 2.10 and now I have 2.12-something. I can't understand 
the instructions on how to fix that. The instructions were unclear 
when I did it back in July, and now they are out of date as well. :(
