That's what I was referring to. I know you can use normal adapters with 
a crossover cat5 cable too :)

Most newer cisco's use a RJ45 connector that take a regular patch cable 
and "terminal" serial adapter, or the other with a crossover cable. It's 
all dependant on what the device think it is in terms of serial 
communication: a modem or a terminal.
