[PLUG] SATA (in general)

My computer has an IDE(100) primary drive with Debian
Sarge installed. I have heard that SATA is an exciting
new technology and that one should try it, although
the performance of my system is now acceptable. Is
SATA well-supported in Linux? Is it possible to
transfer an installed OS from an IDE drive to the
newly-installed SATA drive? And, would the increase in
performance justify doing this? The system board,
A7N8X-E, supports this technology with no add-on
controller.
