   Thanks, Evan. I had tried the cs4232 module (based on extensive reports
found on Google. Then I let alsaconf do its thing, and it found a different
driver.

   Apparently I now have some OSS drivers and some ALSA drivers, but not
enough of either. So, I'm compiling a new kernel (2.4.32) and will start over
again.

   The reports turned up on Google searches are really confusing. A lot of
folks report success with the cs4232 driver. Others (I think on the ALSA
site) say that it's the 4636 driver, despite the system reporting it needs
the 46xx driver.
