About 10 years ago, I spent a winter working on the service desk at an
AT&T Wireless store. Phones dropped in the toilet, or in a puddle were a
regular occurrence. I don't recall ever hearing about one going through
the wash, though. The universal truth about these incidents was that the
phone was either dead or dying. The only exception was when the power
was off AND the phone was completely dried out immediately after a very
brief water based experience. A blow dryer is recommended.
If the power was off when Mr. Phone went swimming drying just might
work. On the other hand, Mr. Phone has now been introduced to Mr.
Corrosion, and will someday discover that one of his circuit board
traces, or a joint between a chip and a board will have become a
resistor instead of a conductor, and eventually will develop a condition
of infinite resistance, also known as an open. The other possibility is
that some of the corrosion from one place will meet up with some
corrosion from another place and create a new resistance path that Mr.
Phone won't know how to deal with.
As was recommended earlier, if you do get the phone to work, get the
info from it as soon as possible, and don't plan on being able to use it
in a critical situation. Some day it will probably fail.
