I am in need of some (Intel) CPU testing software, similar in idea to
what memtest does for memory. The googling I've done leads me to
endless no-name shareware products. I've never had to test for this
problem before so I'm not sure what's available and reliable. Can
anyone offer some direction, or is a benchmark package the best bet?
What I was sure was a motherboard problem is now confirmed as 'not'. I
replaced the PS as well, but the server still randomly freezes and the
hardware monitoring shows fan RPM's from 0 to 160K (yes that's 160,000)
when they look like they're at normal speed to me, and CPU temps far
beyond what would be functional at 78C. All of this is false or the
machine wouldn't function. A quick reboot into the BIOS shows normal
readings. None the less it's locking up frequently. So I just replaced
the mem and CPU and brought the originals home for testing.
