Thanks, Daniel! Putting :
Option "HWCursor" "Off"
in the Devices section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf did the trick!
Now I have a new problem... Now if I run startx too many times, the
"power daemon" refuses to to reload. I'm getting tired of chasing these
little bugs just because I want to do things differently from the norm,
so maybe I'll just boot up in graphic mode and be done with the stupid
thing! I just like the black background and white text of the text
inteface better than the white background and black font of the terminal
window when I need to do any coding or editing, but it seems like it's a
bit of a chore to get it on this machine and distro.
Warning to other clueless Linux newbies... Don't buy a machine with
nVidia chips in it and expect smooth sailing with FC5!! But if you do,
then at least you can get great help on this forum!
