I was recently at a childrens birthday party where the house had been
"greened".

It had a very low profile solar array, as well as a solar hot water
pre-heater.

This pre-heater fed sun warmed water into a tank-less natural gas water
heater.

It was quite the setup, but the temperature of water going into the water
tankless was 120 degrees.

Basically, in the summer you use no gas to heat your water. I was told that
even in the winter

Temeratures of 70 to 80 degrees input are normal. The solar array produced
a full 1/3 of the homes

Total electric bill.

I'd say that's at the very least a great step in the right direction.
