[PLUG] 2-up page imposition: how to?

I produce 8.5" x 5.5" booklets in .pdf format, and
would like to "impose" them so a newly-created file
looks like you pulled the staples out and spread the
sheets out flat. Service bureaus like this.

Fytex does have such an application for Linux, and it
appears to work. (The bottom margins of the pages are
way too wide, and the tops are cut off, so this is a
show-stopper unless it can be solved. And they haven't
got back to me with a price quote. In short, I might
go this route if it looks attractive.)

Any other ideas?
