Two tips for reading man pages:

Skim - just skim through the thing with an intent of looking for stuff that's
interesting.  Ignore everything that's of no interest.  Just look for stuff
that may be useful someday so you can remember it's in the man page when you
need it.

The / key - you can search through the man page by using the / key and then
the n (for next) to find a word of interest.
