   OK. On Slackware there's /etc/rc.d/rc.M (for multiuser mode),
/etc/rc.d/rc.S (for single-user mode), /etc/rc.d/rc.0, .../rc.6, .../rc.K,
and all the rest. I had to add rc0.d through rc6.d to get VMware to work.
