Like a bicycle to an SUV. :)
Abiword is small, fast, and simple. I like it because I write a lot of
HTML-formatted docs for the web, and I manually tag everything. Abiword lets
me give them .html extensions, save them as text files, and then it opens
them as plain text. Other word processors insist on rendering the HTML, which
is useless for editing.
That's the main thing I like it for, plus the word count command is in a
top-level menu, instead of hidden away. It does mail merge, tables, styles,
spell/grammar checker, footers, headers, and the usual formatting stuff. It
uses the horrid gnome print dialog, which is essentially a printer chooser
and nothing else useful.
For short simple documents it's nice. I wouldn't use it to write a book.
