True, and anyone can get a Multnomah County Library card with just a
driver's license for ID. However, Multnomah County Library is not part
of the university inter-library deal. They won't honor my PSU student
ID and school libraries will not honor a Multnomah County Library card.
They're also more on the popular side; not so good if you want
advanced technical info. They live in a different world than the
university library system. Through the PSU library I can get just about
anything that has ever been printed because they will query every
university library in the known universe and obtain it for me. It may
come from deep in the third underground level of stacks at the
University of Lower Slobovistan and take a month to arrive, but if it's
out there, I can get it. Multnomah County just deals with other city,
county and state libraries. Not that I want to knock them -- they play
a vital role in society. Just not very useful past the high school
level of inquiry.
