Luckily Gedit still runs. I copied and pasted your message. Tried to
print, but Gedit can't print either. Tried AbiWord too. Eventually
saved from Gedit as text. Then I crossed my fingers and checked out
network places. Luckily Ubuntu can still see the Windows shares. I
copied the text file to the Windows computer and opened there with
Notepad -- which gave me a formatting nightmare. All one continuous
stream of text without line breaks.

Twenty minutes later I finally have a readable printout in my hand.
Gawd, the *** you have to go through when you screw up. :(

It's time to bite the bullet, shut down, and see what happens. Thanks
for the help. If you don't hear from me for a while, just consider that
my education in Linux is continuing apace.
