Mine is a 1216. Amazon told us that the new turntable has shipped, so 
once we get it and give it a try, I'll decide if I want to let go of the 
old turntable. I have thought of trying to replace the underside with 
something else, like a direct drive, but I'm also aware that the motors 
in these things are a little special, as in having more stability in 
their speed, so that's probably not going to happen -- certainly not 
anytime soon.

I think I always just used the default filter. As I recall (it's been a 
year or more since I recorded anything), when I tried selecting 
something else, I ran into trouble. It did take a bit of getting used to 
the user interface, but it seemed to work fine.
