Actually Sealing duct work is one thing "duct tape" (the silver gray
fabic stuff) is not good for, the adhesive dries out and it falls off.
It was in fact invented during WWII, but for sealing Ammunition cans.

There is a different product which is an aluminum foil backed with
adhesive that is designed for sealing duct work.
