Sounds like a job for wget or rsync. However, it isn't like the
servers are going to be turned off. If you had the desire, you could
install FC1 off of mirrors.kernel.org still, along with all the
updates until it was handed off to Fedora Legacy.

The source rpms are stored on the mirrors with the packages, e.g.
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/core/3/SRPMS/

Probably not, because there isn't the demand for it. Fedora is
supposed to be a bleeding-edge distro, and the developers involved
likely don't want to be bothered with creating a stable distro. If
you want that you'd be better off with RHEL (or CentOS), or a distro
with a different focus like Debian or Ubuntu.

No, they are removing up2date, since up2date is a RHEL thing. You
should look into using yum instead. yumex is a good GUI front-end to
yum.

Core 5 is the current release, released on last Monday. Hence the EOL
of Core 3. Core 3 will be transferred to the Fedora Legacy project,
so look into that if you wish to continue running Core 3 with security
updates.
