Ignoring net/open BSD..
We aren't talking about Linux 2.0, so let's not talk about BSD 4.4 either :)

In FreeBSD 5 and above, if the file system is marked dirty (because of a
power failure or the like) the system does not stop booting. Background
fsck is run instead.
