Interestingly enough Oracle's "Unbreakable Linux" seems to have been
built from CentOS's packages and not directly from Red Hat's. I'm not
sure which tools you mean differ, but I'm pretty sure where it
counts--gcc, binutils--are the same versions. I'm sure Red Hat a
considerable amount of infrastructure that goes into automating the
building and testing which CentOS doesn't have (or has different). At
any rate, at my previous job we did a lot of work with Oracle and
WebLogic (and lots of other Java crap) running on CentOS and RHEL and
found no appreciable differences. (Well, the differences were I didn't
have to wait for management to order my entitlements for CentOS before I
could do on-line post-installation. These days, of course, I've
discovered that Yam can be used even to mirror from RHN, which I wish
I'd had or known about then.)

I have heard so much back and forth about the whole matter and I haven't
bothered to spend any time reading about it, so I have no idea what all
the fuss is about.
