[PLUG] Seeking a Metrix Mark II / Pyramid Linux guru

Hello,

I stumbled across your list while doing some research and have seen some
posts referencing Pyramid Linux and
from the majority of the posts, it looks like I've come across a fairly
Linux savy crowd.

I'm performing a research project in Omaha, Nebraska (a little far from
Portland I know).

I'm not a Linux Networking guru, but know just enough to be dangerous (or
break things).

Problem #1:

To begin, there is little documentation on Pyramid or the Metrix Mark II
kits. However, I've got them built and running
and am able to login (yada yada).

I can't seem to get eth0 on these guys to obtain an IP address on my network
via DHCP.

Via the WebAdmin, I've disabled the DHCP server and enabled DHCP client.

Afterwards, the entry in /etc/network/interfaces looks like this:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Nothing too complicated.

After issuing ifup on eth0, I see:

#ifup eth0
udhcpc (v0.9.9-pre) started
Sending discover...
Sending discover...
Sending discover...
No lease, failing.
Failed to bring up eth0.

I know my cables and networking gear are OK as my Windoze boxen can obtain a
DHCP address fine.
Furthermore, when configuring eth0 to use a static IP and serve DHCP, all is
well.

Anyone have a clue as to what I'm missing here?

Problem #2:

The goal of my research is to understand the feasiblity of getting a
community based wirless network going
here in Omaha. So I've got 2 of these Metrix Mark II kits.

One of my desired experiments is to get something like this (multihop
wireless communication) going:

|Laptop 1| <--1--> |Metrix A| <--2--> |Metrix B| <--3--> |Laptop 2|

Link 1 is an 802.11b connection between Laptop 1 and the wlan0 (in AP mode)
interface serving DHCP on Metrix A.
Link 2 is an 802.11a connection between the Metrix boxes running OSLR on
ath0 (in ad-hoc mode) of each box.
Link 3 is an 802.11b connection between Laptop 2 and the wlan0 (in AP mode)
interface serving DHCP on Metrix B.

I've got links 1 and 3 tested with no problems. Also, I've got link 2 setup
and can see the OSLR visualization map.
What about the routing between wlan0 and ath0 on the Metrix boxen? What are
some good address schemes to
allow Laptop 1 to address Laptop 2 (and vice versa)?

Later on, I plan on pulling the eth0 interface(s) of the Metrix box(es) into
the picture to allow Internet access.

Any suggestions or direction to example setups would be much appreciated.

Thanks for putting up with my long-winded post, just getting a little
frustrated.

Ben
