After some additional reading I discover that I didn't really need to
know that -- at least if I understand what I've been reading. It appears
that I'm supposed to install the guest OS first, and then install the
VMware Tools for that guest OS using a menu entry in the VMware Server
Console.

So, on to getting the guest OS installed.
