[PLUG] weather monitoring station gear?

I am about to mount some wifi gear on my roof, which is something of
an operation due to the pitch of the roof and my wobbly knees.
However, I've arranged for some scaffolding, which will help get me up
there, on a short-term basis.  

It was suggested that I might mount some weather gear at the same time
(anemometer, insolation, air temp sort of stuff) something that I
could monitor/record from a linux box.  Anybody done this before, have
any advice?
