Tried front panel (the ones on the motherboard) as well as the front
panel ones through the header. They are turned on in BIOS. I get
detection messages of the motherboard USB hardware during boot, with
some error message noise. I have an external hub plugged which shows
power on its LED. But if I plug anything in (either to the hub or any
of the other ports) such as a USB storage stick, I get a very brief
blink on the stick LED and then it goes off. Nothing shows in
/var/log/messages. Nothing shows in udevmonitor. Same thing on a
slightly old (spring-ish) Knoppix V5.0DVD as well as 2.6.17.13 and
2.6.18-rc7. On USB developer's advice (based on that error message
noise I didn't quite understand), I've tried removing the ehci-hcd
module, but that doesn't help either.

Would you mind running dmidecode on one you have tested as working and
mailing me the results so I can compare with mine?

Thanks a lot for the help!
