[PLUG] Ubuntu and Comcast

Hi all,

I have Ubuntu 6.06 on my laptop. I think I want to get a comcast
cable connection. I have never had internet cable before. I had
cable TV ten plus years ago. I think there is still some cable wire
coming into my house. I'm not sure. I cannot get DSL where I live.
I've checked various times with the phone companies, and they say that
my part of town, S.E. Portland near Milwaukie, is not DSL capable.

Anyways, does anyone on this list have particular knowledge about what
the best way to go about getting a comcast cable connection with
Linux. I'm think I've seen deals where you pay 33 a month for a year
before they jack your prices up, but I'm not sure if I have to already
have Cable TV, and Cable Phone. I don't have either, and I don't want
either.

Also, should I pay for a cable modem, or rent one, or can I get one
for free as part of some deal?

Also, do I need Windows in order to do the initial configuration of my
Cable conneciton?

Also, any links that would answer my question would be nice.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Victor Soich
