Let me clarify. I am running Ubuntu Linux on a Gateway laptop. I had to use
ndiswrapper and the Windows driver for the wireless adapter to get the
wireless adapter to work. So yes, I am using the Windows driver for the
wireless adapter.

ndiswrapper essentially wraps a windows driver so that linux can us
it. This is a common "solution" to missing linux drivers for wifi
devices.
