   In this case there isn't a benefit. In other situations (e.g., a PDA,
CD-ROM) you can configure the hardware to mount using a generic symlink
(e.g., /dev/pilot, /dev/cdrom) and it doesn't matter where that link points.
You can change the actual device without the hardware knowing that's what
happened. It's an abstraction.
