Russell,

   I would be happy to do so, but I don't have a /proc/acpi/battery
directory. Perhaps that's why the applet fails, too.

   There is /proc/acpi/power_resource/, but it's empty.

   Is there a magic incantation to create the battery/ directory? This is on
a Sony Vaio PGC-V505BC.
