I don't know the answer either, but it drives me nuts also. It's a huge
time-waster. Select + double-click works in a terminal window, but not
in other apps, e.g., OpenOffice.org. Ctrl-c + ctrl-v works in
OpenOffice.org, but not in a terminal window. Copying and pasting
within an application works OK, once you have figured out which system
it is using. It's inter-application copying and pasting that is
infuriating. I don't care what system we end up with, I just wish there
was some way to force all applications to use the same system.

I'd be happy to lend my support to such a cause, although I guess all I
can do is stand on a street corner, wave my hands furiously, and shout
loudly. If that will help, let me know which is the best corner to
stand on and I'll be there.
