Denis,
First, I think you meant to say the monitor was a 206BW or a 226BW,
which are the 20" and 22" versions from Samsung. Both do a native 1680
x 1050. I don't think there is a 216BW.
I just got a 206BW and had issues similar to yours. I think I can help,
but I'm at OSCON manning the PLUG booth until 5:00. Tonight I'll have
time to review what I did to get Ubuntu to recognize the video card and
the monitor. It's running flawlessly now in 1680 x 1050, and I have
options for lesser resolutions as well. I had to leave the booth to get
to a net connection because the Convention Center has deliberately made
wireless unusable in the exhibit hall (so they can charge for it). For
a computer convention, that is lame beyond words, but more about that
later.
