[PLUG] SOHO NAS recommendations

Inspired by a recent nonsense post about the value of two 500GB drives
and an imminent laptop upgrade for my wife, I'm interested in finally
purchasing a good home backup server (and place to put all my
non-critical but large files, like ISO images). The requirements I
have identified so far:
- Gigabit Ethernet (bonus would be built-in gigabit switch)
- Small and hopefully low-power/quiet
- Compatible with Linux, OSX, and Windows
- Potentially hacker-friendly, but more importantly easy to maintain
That last one is important to me, because while it is interesting to
hack on my WRT54G, most of the time I just want it to work. For that
reason I'm leaning toward an embedded system, rather than a small
Linux box, since I don't want to manage yet another system.
Anybody have any thoughts to share?
Jason
