I would guess a usb "security" dongle. I suspect that does not
meet your criteria, because to use one requires a special driver
which is usually closed source and taints the kernel, and they
usually come with software that costs big bux. When the ICED
software I am helping with releases sources (Real Soon Now), there
will be a few thousand no-longer-needed dongles for that, scattered
around the world.
