Heh, beat me to it.  I was like "no!  iperf is easy to use!". :)

I have personal anecdotal experiences where an x-over cable for GigE
between two hosts didn't work well.  I didn't have the time to go dig up
a GigE switch and figure out why this was.  The server backup I did last
Friday was over a GigE switch.
