[PLUG] Launch executable, nothing happens?

Lately I've had a couple issues that leave me totally puzzled. In a
desperate attempt to get music playing properly on my Gutsy x86_64
laptop I have been trying various players (Banshee, Amarok, Rhythmbox,
inter alia). I found a cool one mentioned in an Ubuntu forum -
Songbird. I installed it from the website into ~/Software/Songbird and
it appeared to be installed OK. There was an executable in there
"songbird" and I launched it by double clicking on it. So far, so good.
After fiddling with it for a while I closed it down. Later I tried to
relaunch it, but double clicking on the executable does not launch it.
I restarted the computer, but it still won't launch. Nautilus
identifies the file as an executable. From the command line "songbird"
just gives me a new prompt. No error message, nada. What is even
weirder is that, in spite of the fact that there definitely exists a
file /home/jjj/Software/Songbird/Songbird/songbird, a search on the
filesystem (Places > Search for Files) turns up no such file. Is
Nautilus on drugs?

OK, that is weird enough, but then I decided to try out Noatun, a KDE
music player. It is listed in Synaptic, so that is how I installed it.
The installation created a launch entry in Applications > Sound &
Video. Clicking on the launch item does nothing. Launching it from the
command line also does nothing. That is, I am just returned to a prompt
with no error messages. A search for files reveals no files named
"noatun," although there are various icon files with that name. What is
this? Is Synaptic on drugs?

There is more to this saga that someone here may be able to give me
insight into. I have cool bluetooth headphones and they are awesome,
but RealPlayer will not send sound to them. All other apps will send
sound to the headphones as long as they are turned on; if not, the app
sends the sound to the internal speakers or headphone jack. But
RealPlayer will only send sound to the internal speakers or the
headphone jack. I have googled all over, but bluetooth headphones are
pretty recent on the market and I get no hits on my search. Evidently I
am stuck and must replace RealPlayer with something else. Therefore, I
am looking for an alternative (preferably native Linux open source)
music player that can play MP3s and can play streaming radio. Rhythmbox
is bug city. Amarok spams you with default links you cannot delete, and
the rest that I have tried have various other problems. I'd be
interested in other suggestions.
