Alan wasn't feeling well yesterday, so that may be the reason for
there not being an announcement. In any event, here's an unofficial
announcement for Monday's AT talk. Note that there is a slight
possibility that the subject of the talk may change.

PLUG Advanced Topics Meeting

October 15th, 2007 7pm

Jax Bar
826 SW 2nd Avenue
Portland, Oregon

Speaker: Mark Gross
           Intel

Title: "Power Management Quality of Service (PM_QOS)"

Power Management Quality of Service is a new-ish idea pushed by Mark
at the Linux PM summit in June 2007. It is based on the notion that
if drivers knew performance constraints as defined by other subsystems
and applications, then they would have all the information they need
to do automatic, and nearly optimal, power management.

This talk describes the idea in terms of a generalization of an
existing kernel mechanism, its design, implementation, and talks about
where the technique is expected to work and not work. The current
patch has just been posted and is getting some time in the MM tree
now. We are hoping to get it into the 2.6.25 kernel, along with more
PM_QOS applications.

Mark Gross is an Engineer in the Open Source Technology center at
Intel Corporation. He primarily works on telecommunication computing
platform Linux OS support for Intel, along with some additional
activities. Mark is also the chair of the power management working
group for the Consumer Electronics Linux forum. Mark is a robotics
hobbyist and participates in PARTS http://portlandrobotics.org and the
occasional Dorkbot http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotpdx/ get together.

Standard meeting rules apply.
