Bill,

   The 600E works just fine on a wired ethernet connection. That was the
interim solution when wireless stopped working with the installation of
feisty.

   What I discovered later yesterday was that the laptop has dhclient on it
rather than dhcpcd. Perhaps that's what it needs when in a different
location (and I'll test that today at the clinic), but it does not explain
why it won't connect wirelessly here with the same static IP address it's
had since we got it.

   She doesn't take the laptop to other locations to connect wirelessly, but
perfers to use it from the den here rather than at the office desk with the
wired connection. _That's_ the need to be met: how to get Xubuntu-7.10
wireless networking functioning here on the local network.
