heck, if you don't mind using another browser, opera has a
"fit-to-width" option that you can turn on by hitting control-f11.
nearly all pages (super-ajaxy ones discluded) will get usably
reformatted (usually by shrinking the largest images and wrapping
text) to fit to the width of your browser window.

another "easy" shortcut is to go full-screen which will hopefully make
your browser window big enough, works in ie/ff/opera.  just one
keystroke there and back---f10 (i think?  i use a window manager in
which all windows are full screen these days so i haven't had to know
that for awhile =))
